The best app to practice job interviews (2026)

By Scott Edwards, Founder, ProSocial · Prices checked October 2026

You have an interview coming up and you know your work. The question is whether your stories will come out clearly when an interviewer pushes on them. Every app here asks you questions. They differ in whether anyone challenges your answer.

TL;DR

Ask two things of any interview tool: will you practice telling your own stories out loud, and will someone challenge them the way a real interviewer does? Recording answers to a question bank covers the first. ProSocial covers both. Interview to Hired, $47 once, builds your stories for this role and includes the Job Interview Mastery and Interview Opener Rep role-plays, so you answer out loud to a voice interviewer who pushes for specifics. Dale, your AI people-skills coach, sets each one up with your interview and coaches you through it, and the capstone review checks whether your answers held up.

  • Best for an interview coming up: ProSocial
  • A huge question bank, with a money-back guarantee: Big Interview
  • Coding and system design rounds: Final Round AI
  • If you already pay for ChatGPT: ChatGPT voice

Why being challenged changes everything

Most people who freeze in an interview know the answer. What they lack is a story ready to go, and practice at defending it. The interviewer asks about a time you handled a conflict, then asks “What would you do differently?”, and the best example you have goes missing until you are in the parking lot.

Recording polished answers to a list of questions helps with the first part. The second part only comes from saying your story out loud while someone follows up on it. You pick the stories that prove you can do this work, shape each one so your own contribution is clear, and practice until you can answer the follow-up as calmly as the first question.

Interviews come in three kinds

  1. The first screen. “Tell me about yourself” and “Why this role?” Your first thirty seconds set the tone, so rehearse them until they sound natural.
  2. The behavioral interview. “Tell me about a time when…” You need a bank of STAR stories (situation, task, action, result) that you can match to each question.
  3. The final round on camera or with senior leaders. Now how you come across matters as much as what you say: your voice, your face, and whether you stay steady when someone pushes back.

We built ProSocial so you prepare for the job you actually want. The Interview to Hired program walks you through researching the company, building your STAR stories, your first thirty seconds, practicing under pressure, your voice and camera presence, and the follow-up, with Dale, your personal people-skills coach, working through each step with you. You can rehearse at 10 p.m. the night before, repeat your weakest story as many times as you need, and never wait for an appointment.

What Interview to Hired includes. For $47 once, you get the program’s lessons, Dale coaching you through it and setting its role-plays up with your situation, and these role-plays and tools, which you keep:

  • Job Interview Mastery, the main voice interview.
  • Interview Opener Rep, which drills your first thirty seconds.
  • Follow-up Writer, for the message you send after the interview.
  • Microexpression Training, for reading the interviewer’s face.

What you practice and how it’s scored. In Job Interview Mastery, you are interviewing with Jessica Anne Bogart, HR Director at a fast-growing tech company. Dale sets it up with your interview: who you are meeting, what the role needs, and the question you are worried about, so each run prepares you for the follow-ups you expect on the day.

  • The goal: “Answer common and challenging interview questions with specific evidence, connect your experience to the role, and leave Jessica confident about your judgment and fit.”
  • Focus cue: “Use concrete examples with actions, tradeoffs, and outcomes instead of broad claims.”
  • Focus cue: “Show how you handle feedback, ambiguity, and team pressure without sounding rehearsed.”
  • Focus cue: “Ask or answer in a way that proves you understand the company culture and the role’s demands.”
  • Scored on the People Skills Index skills it’s tagged with, Situational Radar, Emotional Regulation, and Outcome Ownership, then a debrief with Dale.

The debrief covers what you said and how you sounded: your pace, pauses, filler words, and whether your voice stays steady under pressure. See the example debrief on this page. Interview to Hired ends in a capstone review that asks:

  • Did your answer address the question?
  • Did it give a concrete example with your own contribution?
  • Did it handle the interviewer’s challenge?
  • What did your closing question surface?

You leave with one answer or story to reuse, and one revision to make before the real interview. When the interview is over, the Follow-up Writer helps you write the follow-up message.

What free and $47 get you. Free, with no card: Dale’s first realistic situation and feedback on it; connecting your calendar and email for feedback, including Email Audit of emails you have sent; and two free programs, the Conversation Archetype Quiz and How to Calm Someone Down, which has two voice role-plays. Interview practice is not in the free account. For one interview, Interview to Hired at $47 once is the clear pick: it includes both interview role-plays and the capstone review, you keep it after the interview, and nothing renews. That is a little more than one month of Big Interview and less than its three-month plan. Membership is also $47 a month or $470 a year (two months free), cancel anytime: full coaching with Dale on your own meetings and messages, which means rehearsing your situations in any of the 171 library role-plays, preparing for meetings on your calendar, and debriefing afterward. It also includes every program and all 171 role-plays. Choose it if you also want the career tools (the Interview STAR Story Bank, the Logline Workshop for your elevator pitch, a resume rewrite, and ATS alignment against the posting), and Cue Mirror and video expression analysis for a camera interview.

What it will not do: coach you during a live Zoom or Teams interview, or drill you on coding problems. The Zoom and Teams connections are coming soon.

Paste in the job posting and ask it to interview you, one question at a time, out loud. Gemini and Claude can do the same, and you can start tonight at no cost.

The catch: you are the coach. You decide which questions matter and what a strong answer sounds like, and it will not keep a story bank or review your answers against set criteria unless you write them.

My pick

If you have an interview coming up: use ProSocial. Buy Interview to Hired for $47 once. Build the stories this role calls for, drill your first thirty seconds in Interview Opener Rep, and rehearse Job Interview Mastery until your stories hold up under follow-up questions. You keep it after the interview, and nothing renews.

Choose a month of membership instead if you also want the resume and ATS tools, Cue Mirror and video expression analysis, or coaching beyond this interview. It is the same $47, and you can cancel when the interview is done.

If you want to see how it feels first: sign up free tonight, no card needed, and work through Dale’s first situation to see how the coaching and feedback feel. The interview practice itself starts when you buy Interview to Hired or join.

What I would do today

  1. Write down the three things the job posting asks for most.
  2. Pick one story from your work that proves each one, and write it as situation, task, action, and result.
  3. Say your answer to “Tell me about yourself” out loud in under a minute.
  4. Rehearse each story out loud, and ask whoever is playing the interviewer to follow up with “What would you do differently?”
  5. If you want a coach for it, buy Interview to Hired and tell Dale about the job.

Questions

What is the best app to practice job interviews?

ProSocial, if you have an interview coming up. Interview to Hired, $47 once, takes you from research to follow-up, Dale helps you build your STAR stories, and you rehearse them out loud in the program’s Job Interview Mastery and Interview Opener Rep role-plays, scored on Situational Radar, Emotional Regulation, and Outcome Ownership.

Can I try ProSocial for free?

Yes, and no card is needed. A free account includes Dale’s first realistic situation and feedback on it; connecting your calendar and email for feedback, including Email Audit of emails you have sent; and two free programs, the Conversation Archetype Quiz and How to Calm Someone Down, which has two voice role-plays. Interview practice is not part of the free account. For $47 once, you can buy one program, Interview to Hired: its lessons and its role-plays, Job Interview Mastery and Interview Opener Rep, plus the Follow-up Writer and Microexpression Training tools, with Dale coaching you through that program and setting its role-plays up with your situation, and you keep it. Membership is $47 a month or $470 a year (two months free), cancel anytime: full coaching with Dale on your own meetings and messages, which means rehearsing your situations in any of the 171 library role-plays, preparing for meetings on your calendar, and debriefing afterward. It also includes every program and all 171 role-plays, plus the career tools.

What happened to Google Interview Warmup?

It is no longer available. Its old address now opens a Grow with Google article on interview tips, which suggests practicing out loud with Gemini Live.

How do I practice for a video interview?

Rehearse on camera. Interview to Hired covers voice and camera presence, and every role-play gives feedback on your voice. With membership, Cue Mirror also checks your face and hands live on your own camera, and video expression analysis reviews a recorded practice interview.

How does the practice use my job posting and resume?

They shape your preparation. Dale helps you pick the STAR stories this role calls for, and sets up Job Interview Mastery with your interview: who you are meeting, what the role needs, and the question you are worried about. With membership, Dale can also rewrite your resume and check it against the posting.
